List of DITA-related YouTube Videos (Updated)

One of the great things about YouTube (other than numerous videos of cats) is that if you are looking to learn more about a subject—like DITA XML—there’s plenty of material available for you. George Bina at SyncRO Soft recently sent me a link to several DITA and oXygen-related videos posted online, and I realized that it had been a while since I updated my listing of online videos about DITA XML. The list now tops out at over 200 individual videos, ranging from short under-a-minute introductions on basic DITA subjects to hour-plus long overviews on a wide range of topics, including terminology and DITA, identifying reuse potential, DITA support in various editors and much more. Kudos to a number of recent video contributors, including AdobeTCS’ numerous demos on using FrameMaker with DITA, Joe Gelb’s videos on a range of practical subjects on behalf of SuiteSolutions, and Bernard Aschwanden’s comprehensive look at bringing legacy content to DITA.

Here’s the list:

At the DITA Europe 2011 conference, as well as the Best Practices 2011, we have observed considerable progress in the way organizations are developing, managing, and delivering content. DITA Today and Tomorrow12-Jul-12dclaboratory1:02:24
It's been over six years since the DITA specification was officially released by OASIS and people could start using the DITA Open Toolkit. A lot has happened since early 2006, as DITA XML has become the fastest growing information standard for technical writing. Mekon consultant Keith Schengili-Roberts takes a look at where DITA has come from, who is using it, and where he thinks it will be going in the future. In this far-reaching presentation Keith focuses on that portion of the technical writing community that has embraced DITA XML, explores why it has been so successful, and also looks at some of the issues holding it back from even wider adoption. He will also dare to prognosticate on the directions that DITA is likely to be used in the near future.
DITA XML as Neutral Content Source for Educational Publishers27-Jun-12dclaboratory58:04:00
Because it is no longer enough to provide a printed book to teach a skill, educational publishers need to create their content in a neutral XML source that supports multichannel content delivery. An XML architecture separates the content from its delivery and enables you to deliver a range of content in a variety of formats: printed books, eBooks, dynamic learning portals, and mobile applications to start the list. Although there are many XML architectures, the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) supports by its content type, including learning and training content.

What is behind DITA, how does it work, and how can a DITA-based publishing system benefit you. Identify the core elements of DITA and learn which ones you are likely to encounter every day. Once common elements are understood you'll see that DITA provides guidance, not an arbitrary and strict workflow with no room for creativity. documenting with DITA in Drupal13-Nov-10Pronovix9:59:00
In this video I explain how an organization can use a 3-step architecture to involve all the stakeholders of the production process in the development of DITA documentation. The architecture adds a community portal both upstream and downstream of the documentation team. The upstream and downstream portals can plug into the existing tools and processes of the documentation team through the use of DITA documentation topics and maps. As a result more people are involved in the process without having to buy additional licenses of (expensive) specialized XML editors and/or CMS's.

First ID what you need, then clean it up to deliver a concise message. Once you get it into DITA you can use tools like XMetaL, Oxygen, FrameMaker 7.2, 8.0 and 9.0 and others. It is important though to ID the right tool (or tools) so that you can ID the costs to make your business case.
